With Obama being the new president, I was reflecting on our country's past. I was reminded of when I taught a regular class for one year--not Drama--just a regular 2nd grade class, and we were talking about Rosa Parks and her whole situation with the bus.
One of my kids, Keana, raised her hand:
KEANA: My mom is white and my dad is black. Where would I sit on the bus? Would I sit with my mom or my dad?
MR. BOWERS: I don't think your family would have been allowed to even get on the bus!
She understood what I meant. We've come a long way!

When Elena was a little 5 year old, they were talking about Rosa Parks in kindergarten. One girl turned to her and said, "You know, Elena, you would have to sit in the back of the bus too." So Elena answers, "That's ok, I'd sit by Mrs. Johnson." You can't really argue with reasoning like that, can you? -Ruth
I would love to sit by Mrs. Johnson--that lady cracks me up!
Is Ms.Johnson still there?
